International Quilts

Now that colder weather is upon the Northern Hemisphere, four quilts were created this autumn for girls that live in Iceland.

Each quilt included an individualized theme, based on the interests of the recipient.

The oldest of the four found a quilt filled with hearts. Each heart featured a unique floral free motion quilting design.

One quilt found birdhouses behind a fence. Funny, frisky birds adorned the houses, as well as the grass below a fence. Free motion quilting added flowers, gumdrop spiders, birds, bugs, and butterflies.

The third quilt featured cats. Each cat block found unique fabrics that described the new owner's interests. From horses to cats and butterflies, the quilt is a feast for the eyes.

Finally, the fourth quilt started with a girl dreaming of magical beasts. From colorful triceratops and stegosaurus, to a delightful dragon with a heart wing, these large blocks were surrounded by prancing horses.

May these quilts warm the hearts of four girls in Iceland!

A Warm Winter in Nebraska

This year found several quilts going out to family and friends, an unusual departure from previous years. These included a double wedding ring quilt, as well as a birds in flight quilt. Both were done in teals, browns, beige, and golds.

There are several quilts-in-progress that will be sent to two Icelandic toddlers and one young man.

Further, there are three quilts ready to be donated, this time to Omaha´s Open Door Mission. It appears 2016 is going to be an exceptional year for quilting, with the goal of donating more to those that need additional warmth in Omaha, Nebraska.

The only pitfall is the loss of Hancock Fabrics, a fabric store which always offered just the right fabric selection for stunning result. Hancock Fabrics, as well as all of its talented team members, will be missed.
