International Quilts

Now that colder weather is upon the Northern Hemisphere, four quilts were created this autumn for girls that live in Iceland.

Each quilt included an individualized theme, based on the interests of the recipient.

The oldest of the four found a quilt filled with hearts. Each heart featured a unique floral free motion quilting design.

One quilt found birdhouses behind a fence. Funny, frisky birds adorned the houses, as well as the grass below a fence. Free motion quilting added flowers, gumdrop spiders, birds, bugs, and butterflies.

The third quilt featured cats. Each cat block found unique fabrics that described the new owner's interests. From horses to cats and butterflies, the quilt is a feast for the eyes.

Finally, the fourth quilt started with a girl dreaming of magical beasts. From colorful triceratops and stegosaurus, to a delightful dragon with a heart wing, these large blocks were surrounded by prancing horses.

May these quilts warm the hearts of four girls in Iceland!

A Warm Winter in Nebraska

This year found several quilts going out to family and friends, an unusual departure from previous years. These included a double wedding ring quilt, as well as a birds in flight quilt. Both were done in teals, browns, beige, and golds.

There are several quilts-in-progress that will be sent to two Icelandic toddlers and one young man.

Further, there are three quilts ready to be donated, this time to Omaha´s Open Door Mission. It appears 2016 is going to be an exceptional year for quilting, with the goal of donating more to those that need additional warmth in Omaha, Nebraska.

The only pitfall is the loss of Hancock Fabrics, a fabric store which always offered just the right fabric selection for stunning result. Hancock Fabrics, as well as all of its talented team members, will be missed.

Chooty & Company

Chooty & Co., thank you!

A trip to Hancock Fabric brought the delightful experience of meeting Connie G., a member of Chooty & Co. team.

Once Connie learned of Heart-to-Heart Quilts, offering quilts to warm those in need, and Dove of Peace quilts, honoring United States' veterans, she pledged fabric from her company for use in these quilts.

The donation proved beyond generous. Fine fabrics are now part of these works of love and gratitude. Not only did Connie encourage this contribution, but so did her partners and team members. They even provided names of groups with which to share warm quilts.

Meeting exceptional people, like Connie, makes this world so much brighter. Thank you, Connie! Thank you, Chooty & Co. team!

November Donations

Quilt donations began the winter surge in November of 20114. With weather people predicting a cold winter, approximately 20 quilts, in a variety of sizes and age ranges, are ready for the final binding stitches. Once completed, they will be distributed throughout the Omaha, Council Bluffs area.

One quilt was donated to VFW Post 2503. It's included in their drive for the Sienna Francis House, in Omaha, which serves the needs of many that are homeless or living below poverty levels. Thank you, veterans, for caring about those in need!

Warm Quilts

The last few weeks have been so productive, that there will be more quilts ready for the chilly winter weather than anticipated.

While some seem to disappear from my home, there are still approximately 20 tops ready for batting and backs. With the onset of chilly weather, the remainder of the work will be a joy. While most are for children and young adults, there are several quilts ideal for men and women.

One of my next projects is making quilts for those in wheelchairs. The current pattern just doesn't satisfy me. It looks too bulky in the wrong places, and sparse where needed the most. So, a small challenge for the brain.

Thanks for stopping by and reading the blog. In time, photos of finished projects will follow.

Beautifully stated, and so true of Heart to Heart Quilts!

Another Great Story

This quilt is dedicated to Michael, one of three young men that helped me on one hot summer day. My car stalled at the front of my apartment complex and refused to start again. As Michael, and his friend, passed by, they offered assistance.

Not only did he attempt to get my battery jumped, but he went and got a pickup truck in case he needed to pull the car across the complex.

As he, his friend, John, and another man, Damon, worked on fixing it, the sun continued to beat down on us. Once we knew it wouldn't move, these three men pushed the car more than two blocks to park it.

Michael, thank you for helping me at a time of great need. Your help will be remembered!

The quilt, while not finished, is in the works.

Log Cabin Heart Quilt

One of the most exciting moments in quilting occurs as a vision becomes reality in good fabric, with lots of TLC going into every minute of creating it.

The first quilt from Heart-to-Heart Quilts is dedicated to Jason. This young man took time from his work to assist an older, handicapped woman get home. She was loaded down with groceries and having a difficult time walking the last half mile. Jason provided a safe ride home. She and the groceries arrived in much better condition thanks to his kindness.

The quilt, a log cabin heart quilt, begins with this block:

Front of the block

Block back includes info, including: quilters name, DOB, quilt block title, and date created
Second block
Third block includes the pink heart and the background prints

Information on the back, identifying the third block

When finished, it will be presented to a baby girl that is in need of keeping warm this winter. Hopefully, the soft colors will keep the chill off and help her sleep snuggled in security.

Welcome!

Heart-to-Heart Quilts offers quilts to families and individuals in need of warmth during the winter months. Made by Dove of Peace, DeAnn Nichelson, the quilts are colorful and pleasing to the eye, but their greatest value is in chasing away the chills.

Some quilts are given to individuals caught in the act of a doing a good deed. If they want, recipients' can have their names written on the back of a quilt. Those earning the quilt know that an act of kindness provides further comfort.

Warm quilts and kindness brighten the world through the spirit of friendship. May love fill our hearts, hope fill our minds, & an attitude of generosity blossom each time we meet another person.
